A letter to the editor of Nature Biotechnology which was published in the May issue, and the reply of Karin Maschke on whose article I have commented in this letter. Maschke replies with ethics, how the law should be, while my comments were based on her inaccurate description of how the law is in several countries. More could be said about Maschke’s ethical ideas. However, there was no room for that in the letter and neither is there here. This summer Evert-Ben van Veen hopes to write more on this topic.
